Domestic Violence Shelter Needs Volunteers

The Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter Home is a local safe haven for victims of domestic violence.

The shelter provides a place to live, grow and rebuild for women and children stepping out of an abusive situation.

And, as you can imagine, an organization of such integrity requires all kinds of community support and kind hearted people to help run the shelter.

The shelter is accepting volunteers and will be holding a volunteer training session in January.

Some of the duties performed by volunteers would be answering telephones, counseling and other household duties.

Executive Director Mary Niemela said, “Volunteers are basically there whether we have someone in the shelter or not to answer phones and if we have clients in the shelter they certainly will listen and talk with them, meet their needs, whatever it is they’re needed at while their time at the shelter.”

The shelter is a 24 hour facility and would gladly accept volunteers willing to donate even a few hours per month.
