It’s been a little over a month since the DNR suspended open burning across the state, due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic.
They have announced they will begin issuing burn permits again.
Fire Section Supervisor, Dan Laux said they’re going to issue permits based on local fire risk and weather conditions, just as they’ve done in the past.
He also expects residents to use common sense, and continue social distancing.
To make sure firefighters were available for emergencies and to protect them from exposure to COVID-19, open burning of yard debris was suspended on March 26th.
Now that the state is moving toward the “green up” stage of vegetation, fire can now be regulated, based on local fire danger ratings.
Weather, including anticipated rainfall and wind, make up a big part of the fire danger ratings.
