DNR Offers Guide to Public Hunting Land

Hunting camps are being opened up across the region, in advance of the start of the firearm deer hunting season tomorrow.

Michigan DNR Conservation Officer Mark Pomeroy encourages some planning to make sure you don’t wind up trespassing…

Know where you’re hunting. You’re responsible to know, are you on public land? If you’re going to hunt private land, you have to have permission.

Wildlife biologist John DePue adds that the DNR has online help for that…

Goggle search MI Hunt. It’s a Michigan DNR web page, and you can see all of the CF land – commercial forest land that allows you to hunt, you can see the Forest Service land that allows you to hunt, you can see all of the Michigan DNR land, or any land that is open to hunting.

Link to the page here.

Hunting is legal from 30 minutes before local sunrise until 30 minutes after local sunset, and that window changes daily. In the Western U.P., tomorrow’s hunting hours are from 7:11 a.m. to 5:58 p.m.

See all the hunting rules and regulations here.

DePue and Pomeroy previewed the hunting season in the November 13th “Copper Country Today” program.
