Dial Help handled 2,815 crisis contacts during its 2020 fiscal year.
The organization released its annual report this week. More than 80 percent of crisis contacts came via the Dial Help phone line. 12 percent of contacts were made by text, four percent by instant message, and two percent were walk-ins. Nearly half of the calls came from Houghton County. 21 percent came from Marquette County, and 11 percent originated outside the Upper Peninsula.
The report highlights an increased commitment by Dial Help to combat addiction in the Copper Country. A syringe services program was begun last spring, and was involved in NARCAN distribution and peer recovery coach training.
Dial Help also opened its new Child Advocacy Center in September. It provides services for abused children.
