After the Father’s Day Flood, it came to the attention of many in the Keweenaw that flood insurance has not been available to most communities and members of the public.
On January 8th, 2019 Linda Hansen the UP District Floodplain Engineer with the MI Dept. of Environmental Quality will be presenting on the National Flood Insurance Program (or NFIP) at two separate informational sessions to be held at Michigan Tech’s Great Lakes Research Center, Room 202.
Linda will be presenting along with Matt Occhipinti, the statewide NFIP Coordinator, who is also with MI DEQ.
The first session, designed for Community Officials, will be held from 2 to 4 pm and will cover community enrollment in the NFIP. Officials from Houghton and Keweenaw counties are welcome to attend.
The second session that day, which will be geared towards the General Public, will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 in the evening at the same location.
Again, because these info sessions will present different information, Public Officials are strongly encouraged to attend the afternoon session, while the general public is encouraged to attend the evening session.
