A home badly damaged by fire more than a year ago in Houghton is being demolished.
The structure at 915 College Avenue, just east of Franklin Square, caught fire March 14th, 2021. It burned for hours. Firefighters were hindered in battling the blaze because of significant clutter inside.
Since then, the city has tried to work with the owner to have the mess cleared up. With no action forthcoming, City Manager Eric Waara informed the city council last month that demolition had been ordered.
A large crane knocked down the remaining walls yesterday, and began removing debris.
