CTE Progam Millage To Be Decided Today

How important is career and technical education to the residents of the Copper Country?

That question will be answered today as voters have their say on a proposal to levy 1-mil for 10 years in support of CTE programs in the Copper Country Intermediate School District.

CCISD Superintendent George Stockero says if you want to know how valuable the program is, simply ask the students.

“Listen to what our students have to say,” said Stockero, “and you will be amazed at how much the students explained that this has been a great class for them and they talk about the hands-on experience and how they’re learning and it’s so much different than a high school class and how much they appreciate that class.”

Stockero said, even if you don’t have a child currently in the school district, everyone benefits from local students getting the education they need to fill the gaps in the automotive mechanics, construction and health care workforce.

“They need more technicians.  I’ve had businesses tell me they have not been able to bid on jobs because they do not have enough personnel.  And, again with health care, we may have less choices if we don’t continue the pipeline for the health care, for the trades, for the auto dealers,” Stockero said.

If the proposal fails, the number of students able to attend a CTE program will be greatly reduced.
