Cruising The Keweenaw To The End Of The Road

Those are the sounds of Keweenaw Cruiser’s 14th Annual End O’ The Road Keweenaw Tour and Car Show.

The event begins with a cruise that parades the cars on the western shore of the Keweenaw all the way up to the show in Copper Harbor.

Keweenaw Cruisers member Curtis Wittenberg said the cruise is his favorite part of the event.

“I think the cruise is the unique part of it. A lot of car shows, you know, everyone just shows up, parks their cars and shows them. This one here, you’ve got the cruise along Lake Superior, with the scenery and everything else. That allows more people to see them that might not be able to make it up to the actual show,” said Keweenaw Cruisers member Curtis Wittenberg.

Many of the drivers staged their cars before the cruise in the parking lot of Campioni’s True Value.

This was beneficial to not the public, but to the cars that probably wouldn’t make it up to Copper Harbor.

Buster Anttila’s 1951 Ford has one of the original four wheel drives, but he had to drive it through the woods to get it to the parking lot.

“That’s the gas tank. It’s not hooked up to the original tank. I just got it going yesterday, so,” said Anttila.

For the third year in a row, all proceeds from the show go towards Keweenaw Random Acts of Kindness, an non-profit organization that helps residents of Houghton and Keweenaw counties in need.

If you didn’t make it to this year’s car show, Wittenberg said there’s always next year.

“Just for the future, it’s always the third Saturday in July. So, if you even want to try to plan a trip, whatever, you know, you can always count on that it’s going to be that same weekend.”
