COVID-19 numbers dropped again in the Copper Country last week. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported 58 confirmed infections in Houghton, Keweenaw, Baraga and Ontonagon counties, compared to 73 in the previous week, and 90 the week before.
Statewide numbers also dropped, with the average number of daily diagnoses falling below 2,100, compared to 2,800 the previous week. An average of 14 people died each day last week because of COVID-related causes.
Officials caution that the actual number of COVID-19 cases is probably higher. Positive results from home tests are frequently not reported. Cases with few or mild symptoms may go undiagnosed, although even asymptomatic victims can spread the virus to others.
