COVID-19 Finds Mission Point of Hancock

The latest long-term care facility in the Copper Country to be hit by a COVID-19 outbreak is Mission Point of Hancock, formerly known as the Lighthouse at Hancock.

The latest weekly report posted on the state’s coronavirus website shows 12 new patient diagnoses, bringing the total number of cases since the pandemic began to 13 at the facility. Eight staff members were confirmed positive, bringing that total to 20 for the pandemic.

None of Houghton County’s other long-term care facilities reported any patient cases in the past week. Canal View had two staff members test positive. Gardenview and Portagepointe each had one.

In Baraga County, Bayside Village continues to struggle. 20 new cases among patients raised the pandemic total to 63. Eight additional deaths raised the total to 15. Five more cases among workers increased the total number of staff diagnoses to 26.

Aspirus Ontonagon’s Long Term Care Unit, which was hit hard in the fall, reported no new cases among residents or staff in the past week.
