Hearings will take place in Detroit today and tomorrow in the lawsuit filed by a Houghton business owner who is trying to overturn Michigan’s ban on selling flavored, nicotine-based vaping products.
906 Vapor’s Mark Slis filed the suit in Houghton County after Governor Gretchen Whitemer announced the ban several weeks ago. It was moved to the Michigan Court of Claims at the request of Attorney General Dana Nessell.
Last week, Judge Cynthia Diane Stephens declined to issue a temporary restraining order that would have put the ban on hold until the case could be adjudicated.
Proponents of the ban say it will help stop growing use of vaping products by teenagers. Opponents say it takes a useful smoking cessation product away from adults.
