County Millage Apportionment Approved

The Houghton County Board of Commissioners approved a county millage apportionment of 10.230 at Tuesday night’s monthly meeting.

Equalization director John Partanen gave the board a report on where the millage will be allocated. It was passed unanimously.

Health rates and options for county employees were discussed at length. Eric Forsberg was asked to meet with union officials and report back on the subject at December’s meeting.

The board accepted the annual report of the county planning commission.

The matter of an application for the Otter Lake Dam grant was also shelved for further discussion. Commissioner Anton Pintar advised that a citizens group of lake residents met with the DNR and United States Forest and Wildlife Service spokesmen to see what is the next step in the project.

In other business, the board:
* Appointed Chris VanArsdale to fill the planning commission spot held previously held by Jack Dueweke, who retired.
* Appointed Kristy Hilgers to the Human Services Board.
