Countdown To Calumet Colosseum Voting–2 Days

With online voting starting in just two days, the city of Houghton is calling on all residents to help make their northern neighbors Hockeyville USA.

Houghton is home to Dee Stadium and is referred to as the “Birthplace of Professional Hockey”, but it was the Calumet Colosseum—said to be the world’s oldest indoor hockey arena still in operation—that made this year’s final four in the Kraft annual contest.

Houghton City Manager Eric Waara urged the public to vote in favor of Calumet. “Hockey is such an important part of life here in the Keweenaw, that everyone should support whether it was here or it’s in Calumet,” he said.  “We are all in this together and hopefully people will get out and support them from all over the area and all over the country.”

Voting will be open from 7am Saturday until 11am Sunday at www.krafthockeyville.com.

Registration is easy and Waara said people can vote up to 40 times on the same account.

The winner of the Kraft Hockeyville USA contest will receive $150,000 in arena upgrades and get to host an NHL preseason game this fall.
