CopperDog 150 Sign-Up Brisk

Sign-up for the 2023 CopperDog 150 is off to a fast start.

The annual sled dog race will be held March 3rd through 5th on the Keweenaw Peninsula. This year’s event has been expanded to include four races:
• The three-stage professional-level CopperDog 150, with 10-dog teams;
• The two-stage professional-level CopperDog 80, with eight-dog teams;
• A single-stage recreational-level CopperDog 30, with six-dogs teams;
• A single-stage recreational-level CopperDog 15, with six-dog teams.

The 150 will begin Friday night in Calumet, with restarts Saturday morning in Eagle Harbor, and Sunday morning in Copper Harbor. The race will finish Sunday afternoon in Eagle Harbor.

The schedule for the 80 has been changed. The race will begin Friday night in Calumet. The second stage will be moved up from Sunday to Saturday, with the finish in Copper Harbor.

The 30 will begin Friday night in Calumet, and end in Eagle Harbor. The 15 will be an out and back race Saturday, starting and ending in Copper Harbor.

Organizers report that interest in this year’s race has been high. Of the 20 slots available in the signature 150 race, 19 have already been filled. All 20 of the slots in the CoppeDog 15 have been spoken for, and there are four mushers on a waiting list.

The mid-length CopperDog 30 and 80 are each about half-full.

A total of $32,300 in prize money is being offered for this year’s races.
