Copper Country Law Enforcement Leader Passes

A long-time stalwart of the Copper Country law enforcement community has died.

Jon W. Ahola passed away Sunday at age 72. 

Ahola served 10 years as a Houghton County sheriff’s deputy, six years as Hancock city police chief, and 18 years as Michigan Tech’s Director of Public Safety. He also directed the Criminal Justice Program at Finlandia University for 25 years.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Memorial Chapel.
