The Village of Calumet has a new Administrator.
The contract for Calumet native Joe Snow was approved at Tuesday’s village council meeting, 6-1.
Snow returned to the Copper Country about a year ago after a 31 year career in the military.
He was working at Michigan Tech when the opportunity arose to make a difference in the town he grew up in.
Snow fills the vacancy created when former Administrator Rob Tarvis left the position to serve as village clerk and to work at the Houghton County Road Commission.
In other business, the village awarded the contract to revise their Master Plan to consultant Patrick Coleman of Dollar Bay.
Coleman said he worked on the village’s previous Master Plan, adopted in 2008.
A monument with the names of the victims of the Italian Hall disaster is in the works.
The memorial of those that died in the 1913 tragedy would be placed at the park site in Calumet.
The village still needs to approve the color, design and materials to be used in the marker.
The village council increased the hours for interim police chief Gene Thornton from 30 to 40 patrol hours.
The applications for a permanent chief have been received and the council set up a special meeting on March 2nd to discuss them and begin interviewing candidates.
