Congress Holds First Bipartisan Heroin and Opioid Task Force Meeting of 2019

Congress continues to look for ways to combat the heroin and opioid crisis that is affecting many parts of the nation, including the Copper Country.

Northern Michigan’s representative Jack Bergman participated in this year’s first Bipartisan Heroin and Opioid Task Force meeting along with health experts on Monday.

Bergman said the task force reviewed the efforts from the previous Congress to chart a path forward.

The panel heard from experts from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and the Addiction Policy Forum on how lawmakers can work together to permanently end this epidemic.

“I will continue supporting legislation this Congress that prioritizes increased access to rural healthcare, telehealth initiatives, and the general health and welfare of First District constituents,” said Bergman.

Last year, Congressman Bergman supported numerous bills to combat the opioid epidemic and voted in favor of continued funding for the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act.
