Community Solar Meeting Being Held In Baraga Village

Is community solar coming to Baraga?  Village residents and businesses are invited to community meeting to learn more

The Village of Baraga is evaluating the feasibility of a community solar program for its residents and businesses.  Village electric utility customers are invited to participate in a community meeting to provide feedback on the proposed project and learn more about the study.

The Upper Peninsula Solar Technical Assistance and Resource Team (UPSTART) is hosting a Community Meeting on Thursday, April 12th, from 6:30pm-8:00pm at the Baraga Area Schools Library. Members from the UPSTART team will provide basic information about the project. Most of the meeting will be in small group discussions with community members about what they would look for in a project like this. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend.

Free refreshments will be offered during the forum. Attendees will be eligible to win a $300 gift certificate to purchase an Energy Star(r) appliance, courtesy of sponsors WPPI Energy and the Village of Baraga.  Ten other lucky attendees will also receive energy efficiency kits for their homes or businesses.

The UPSTART team consists of members from the Western Upper Peninsula Planning & Development Region (WUPPDR), WPPI Energy, and Michigan Technological University.  Support for the feasibility study is provided by the American Public Power Association’s Demonstration of Energy & Efficiency Development program which funds research, pilot projects, and education to improve the operations and services of public power utilities.
