Color blast returns for 3rd annual Aspirus Light the Night Fun Run/Walk

Light the Night 2016 picturesLAURIUM – Double the color. Double the fun. That’s what Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital’s Women’s Health Team anticipates for the third annual Light the Night Fun/Run Walk Saturday, Sept. 17.

The event kicks off at 7:15 p.m. with a free 1K for children. The 5K Fun Run/Walk follows at 7:45 p.m. The route begins and ends in the courtyard at Aspirus Keweenaw. Plenty of glow sticks and color blasts (optional) will be on hand for participants who want to go all-out.

“Last year we had over 250 people of all ages come out. This has grown into a super fun event for a really great cause – to help a local community group help others,” said Jenn Jenich-Laplander, Aspirus Keweenaw Marketing Logistics Coordinator. “It’s a great way to get out, get active and show your community support.”

Light the Night is a fundraiser event. This year, proceeds will benefit the Childhood Cancer Fund, operated by Great Lakes Mutual Insurance. The fund was established to provide financial assistance directly to families within Houghton, Keweenaw, Baraga and Ontonagon counties whose child has been diagnosed with cancer.

“We believe in this cause and our commitment to support the communities in which we live,” said Jim Winquist, manager of Great Lakes Mutual Insurance. “We appreciate the opportunity to partner with Aspirus in this event to benefit those who are affected by this disease.”

Registration is $25, and includes a t-shirt, glow sticks and optional color blast. For students ages 11 – 18, registration is $15. Register online at www.active.com through Sept. 17, or from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the hospital courtyard the day of the race. Fun prizes, including gift certificates and athletic gear, will be drawn following the event. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.

Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital is located at 205 Osceola Street in Laurium. For more information, visit www.active.com, or call Jenn Jenich-Laplander at 906.337.6541.
