College Avenue Detour to End Friday

Traffic along College Avenue between Franklin Square and the Michigan Tech campus will return to normal this weekend.

The Michigan Department of Transportation says the detour that has been in effect since early summer will be lifted Friday afternoon at 5:00.

Officials had hoped to have traffic back to normal by the end of August, but unexpected construction challenges extended the project. Some finish work will need to be completed next spring.

With the detour lifted, the Sharon Avenue intersections with Gundlach Road and Military Road will revert to four-way stops. The traffic lights currently in place will go into flash mode, and eventually be replaced with single-flash beacons.
