The Calumet, Laurium and Keweenaw School District kicked off their distance learning program today, to ensure students continue learning during the shutdown.
In an email from the school district to parents, online resources, books, activity packets and laptops on loan are a few of the things currently offered.
With no timetable for students to return as of yet, parents are encouraged to take part in their children’s education.
CLK Superintendent Chris Davidson explained what teachers are doing to make the switch from classroom to online learning.
Elementary students are using an online platform called See Saw.
Students in grades 6th through 12th are using Schoology.
If parents would like access to See Saw or Schoology, they can contact the school office.
Paper editions are also available, if you don’t have internet access.
If your child is a special needs student, you will receive an email with modified lesson plans, and you can email your child’s teacher, if you’re still having difficulties.
If your child is enrolled in college classes, they are expected to complete all coursework through Schoology, until May 4th, or risk failure.
Should your child fail a college course, you are expected to reimburse the school district for the tuition for that course.
If your child has left their laptop at school, you can make arrangements through the office to pick it up, and a number for tech support is 906-487-7624.
