CLK Elementary Students Take Part In Global Youth Service Day

Students from CLK Elementary will be taking part in Global Youth Service Day this Friday.

There are at least 30 projects taking place this weekend statewide in honor of the event which engages thousands of Michigan youth in volunteerism.

The CLK students will visit Gardenview Assisted Living and Memory Care in Calumet to read to seniors.

“It’s great to have youth not only serving but taking lead roles in volunteer projects that impact the community,” said Ginna Holmes, Michigan Community Service Commission executive director. “It’s always wonderful to see youth show their generous spirit and willingness to help others.”

The event is put on by the Michigan Community Service Commission and involves nearly 3,000 youth volunteers in service projects across the state for the national day of service.

Global Youth Service Day is an annual campaign that celebrates and mobilizes the millions of children and youth who improve their communities each day of the year through service and service-learning.

Established in 1988 by Youth Service America, Global Youth Service Day is the largest and longest-running service event in the world, and the only day of service dedicated to children and youth.

The Michigan Community Service Commission has partnered with Youth Service America, the Michigan Nonprofit Association, Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and the Corporation for National and Community Service to support Global Youth Service Day in Michigan.
