Christmas Lighting Contest Winners Announced

The winners have been announced in the Lake Linden Area Christmas Light Challenge. The competition was open to residents in the village of Lake Linden, Bootjack, Traprock, Jacobsville, Hubbell and Tamarack City. The grand prize winners were Denise and Kevin Curtin. Second place honors went to Paul and Kathy Malnar. They all live on Bootjack Road. Evan and Jen Miner of Hecla Street took third place.

The competition was a fundraiser for the Copper Country Humane Society. Prize money was donated by Jam Service of Lake Linden, with some additional contributions from a couple of area residents.

All of the winners donated their prize money back, allowing organizers to make a total donation of $615 to the Humane Society.

In the recent Laurium Holiday Decorating Contest, Ed and Karen LaBonte took first place. Jessica Mattson, and Jeff and Wendy Plunta were runners-up. You can see their entries on the Laurium Village Facebook Page.

Several Copper Country residents earned prizes in UPPCO’s recent Holiday Lighting Contest. Robert and Margaret Landsparger of Houghton, and Benito Cadena of Hancock claimed honors in the Griswold Division. Dale Damsteegt of Atlantic Mine and Tony Vezetti of Ontonagon won prizes in the Traditional Division. Each winner receives a $250 gift card for use at local businesses.
