Some upgrades have been completed on the Chassell Township Trails.
10 fitness stations have been installed in the 67-acre park, giving those who are using the trails an opportunity to cross train with strength and stretching exercises. Volunteers installed the stations.
The Chassell School construction trade class also spent 80 hours replacing a damaged bridge on the trail.
Most of the money to purchase the stations and bridge materials came from a Portage Health Foundation grant. The rest came from the Chassell Township recreation millage.
Students and staff at Michigan Tech are developing a series of videos that will describe proper use of the fitness stations.
Township officials say they plan to have a grand opening for the facility next spring.
