Even as hunters prepare for the opening of the 2020 firearm deer season on Sunday, the Michigan Natural Resources Commission is looking to make some changes for the 2021 hunt. Potential changes will be introduced at the commission’s meeting Thursday. They include…
• A proposed overhaul of the license system that would allow more antlerless hunting in the southern and central Upper Peninsula.
• A proposal to allow crossbows to be used during the late portion of the archery season across the Upper Peninsula.
• A proposal to remove the three-point antler point restriction on the regular tag of the deer combo license in the Upper Peninsula.
In addition, the commission is considering changes to the supplemental feeding program in the Upper Peninsula…
• Permits would no longer be required.
• Supplemental feeding would be limited to January first through May 15th.
• Prohibiting recreational or supplemental feeding if a location is deemed to be a safety hazard.
Hunter feedback on the proposed regulations for the 2021 fall deer hunting season is encouraged at NRC meetings or by email.
