The Champion Fire Department lived up to its name Saturday, earning top honors at the U.P. Volunteer Firefighters Tournament.
The Champion squad nearly swept the board, taking first place in the Night Shirt Parade, the Commercial Parade, and the races. The Laurium Fire Department took top honors in the dress parade.
In the races on Saturday, Champion won the ladder competition, and finished in the top three in the other events. West Iron County won the four fireman dress, coupling, and interchange competitions. Allouez Township claimed the mystery event.
Overall, West Iron County finished second in the competition, with the Florence Fire Department taking third place.
The 127th annual competition was hosted by the Calumet Township Fire Department.
