Celebrate 60 Years With Family Day Aboard the Ranger III

The Portage Lake District Library and Isle Royale National Park invite families to celebrate 60 years of Ranger III ferry service with programs, a tour of the Ranger III, and a cruise aboard the boat on Thursday, August 16. Families may participate in one, two, or three of the events.

Events are as follows:

10:30 -11:00 a.m.
Ranger III Kids Program at the Portage Lake District Library
Join Ranger Derrick Jaeger as he explores the Ranger III and its more than 5,000 Lake Superior crossings. This event is geared toward families and children ages 5 – 12.

11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
A Walking Tour Aboard the Ranger III
Ranger III Captain Rand Attaway will lead a 30 minute tour of the boat. Wear comfortable shoes and meet in front of the Isle Royale Visitor Center at 11:20 a.m. This is for all ages.

12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Cruise Aboard the Ranger III to Portage Lake and Back
Families with kids age 15 or younger can take a free cruise aboard the Ranger III onto Portage Lake. To make the required reservations, call the Portage Lake District Library at (906) 482-4570. Reservations will be accepted through August 15. On August 16, those who have reservations can check in at the Isle Royale Visitor Center by 12:00 p.m. to pick up their tickets. Light jackets are recommended for the cruise.
