Casperson Diagnosed With Cancer

Casperson

ESCANABA — State Senator Tom Casperson (R-Escanaba) recently announced that he has been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer.

According to a statement from the Delta County Republican Party, the senator said the cancer was diagnosed at the University of Michigan after an unsuccessful treatment of what was thought to be a muscle disorder.

Casperson said the cancer has spread to his spine in three or four spots. He plans to begin a “fairly new” treatment in Dickinson County next week.

“It’s something fairly new but they’ve had a lot of success with it.  But I like the idea that instead of tearing your entire body down with chemo,  it really goes after the very cancer and the cells that affect it,” he told the Radio Results Network.

Casperson says he will continue to his work in office as long as he physically can. He has served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2002 to 2008, and was elected to the Michigan Senate in both 2010 and 2014.
