Canal View – Houghton County has passed the first test necessary to consider reopening to visitors.
More than 500 residents and staff members have been tested for COVID-19 infection, and all the tests have been negative.
Administrator Kim Salmi credits the staff’s faithful adherence to screening and prevention processes.
Staff members have created a reopening plan, and have built stations that will be used for outdoor visits once state restrictions begin to be lifted. The current order banning visits to nursing homes and care facilities is in effect until July 24th.
Salmi says they have been able to arrange online conversations for residents and their families, but admits that they don’t fully take the place of in-person meetings.
