One of the region’s biggest running events takes place tomorrow morning.
Online registration for the Hancock Canal Run has closed, but onsite registration and bib pickup will be open today between 3 and 8 at Quincy Green. Bib pickup will also be open tomorrow morning between 6 and 8:45, but there will be no race day registration.
Distances for runs and walks range from a two-mile fun run and walk to a half-marathon.
Organizer Angela Luskin from UP Health System-Portage says more than 700 have already signed up – many from outside the area…
Because runners share the roadway with vehicle traffic, the race will cause some traffic disruptions tomorrow morning. Luskin says that will include a temporary speed control order…
The 25-mile per hour limit on M-203 will be lifted in segments, as racers clear the course.
Hancock will open its big weekend tonight with the annual Key Ingredients event. From 6 until 8, downtown restaurants and businesses will offer food samples and live music. Special events are planned at Finlandia University and the Copper Country Community Arts Center.

The annual Hanka Homestead Heritage Day will be held Sunday from noon until 5:00 at the historic farm in Askel. The afternoon will include demonstrations of traditional crafts, along with entertainment from the Kivajat Dancers, the Finnish folk band Laulu Aika, and musician Steve Solkela. There is no charge to attend, but donations are appreciated.
