The Father’s Day Flood didn’t wash away this year’s Canal Run. The 43rd running of the event will take place as scheduled tomorrow with the same starting points, but with a different finish line.
Because of damage to M-203, instead of the race ending in downtown Hancock, the finish will be at McLain State Park.
UP Health System—Portage Health and Fitness Manager Angela Luskin said they were fortunate to find an alternative to the normal route. “One of the things that we need to think of for the Canal Run is where can 1,000-plus people be outside and our spots are pretty limited but McLain State Park offers that capability quite easily for us,” she said.
The 2018 Canal Run will include a half-marathon, five and 10-mile walks and runs, and a two-mile fun run and walk, plus a Canal Kid’s Dash at McLain State Park.
Last-minute registration and packet and bib pick-up will take place today from 3:00 to 8:00 pm at Finlandia Hall on Finlandia University’s campus.
There is a pre-race pasta dinner today from 4:30 to 7:30 pm at the Finnish-American Heritage Center.
Tomorrow, participants and supporters are asked to park at First Apostolic Lutheran Church, two miles west of Calumet on M-203.
Shuttle buses will run continuously between there, the starting points, and the finish line.
