Calumet Man Injured In Motorcycle Accident

A 60-year-old Calumet man is hospitalized after crashing his motorcycle on Saturday.

Deputies from the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the accident shortly after 3:30pm.

Authorities say the man was traveling north on the Gay-Lake Linden Road near Coal Dock Road when he lost control of the 2002 Harley Davidson, causing the motorcycle to leave the roadway.

The man was ejected from the motorcycle and thrown about 50 feet.

He was taken to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital by Mercy EMS and later airlifted to a higher level trauma center for treatment of his severe injuries.

Speed or alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors in the accident, which remains under investigation.
