A Calumet couple has been recognized for their extraordinary efforts to help children.
Cassie Harris-Berryman and Erik Berryman have been named Angels in Adoption by U.S. Senator Gary Peters.
The Berrymans were married in 2005, and were licensed to provide foster care in 2010. Since then, they have adopted seven children, each of whom have various special needs, including ADHD, reactive attachment disorder, seizure disorder, anxiety, depression, premature birth, low birth weight, chronic heart condition, speech and language impairment and more.
They are passionate advocates on behalf of their children, and have involved them in extracurricular activities including reading, arts, church and organizations that keep them thinking and learning.
The Angels in Adoption program is sponsored by the nonpartisan and privately-funded Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute. Peters is a member of the Foster Care Caucus and the Congressional Coalition on Adoption.
