Calumet Council Supports Downtown Building Rehab

Rehab work continues on a building in downtown Calumet.

At last night’s meeting, the village council approved a conditional use permit for 201 5th Street. That’s the building at the northwest corner of the Portland Street intersection.

The developer told council members that retail space has been leased in the building. The next step is to complete some ground-level and second story apartments for long-term rentals.

Council members also began discussing how the village will use money coming in from the American Rescue Plan Act. They hope to hold a public meeting to get community input.

The council also authorized village manager Amber Goodman to attend an educational summit for Upper Peninsula municipal managers next month in Marquette.
