Calumet To Apply For Grant For Elm Street Project

If the grant application is successful, one street in Calumet will undergo a major facelift.

The work would focus on Elm Street in the village from 4th to 9th Street and will include new water and sewer systems and a complete resurfacing.

U.P. Engineers & Architect’s Chris Holmes explained to the Village Council that it may be possible to have the $800,000 project done through a grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, with the village only needing to come up with a ten percent match.

Holmes said the majority of that match could come from the North Houghton County Water and Sewage Authority.

The council gave the approval to apply for the grant.

If awarded, bids for the project would need to go out by February 2018 with the work completed by December 2019.
