Another fine has been levied against Calumet’s controversial Café Rosetta.
Ingham County Circuit Court Judge Wanda Stokes levied a $2,500 contempt of court penalty Friday morning, after business owners refused to honor her earlier order to stop providing indoor service, in violation of the state’s Epidemic Order.
In her decision, Stokes wrote, “When it comes to court orders, in my opinion, civil disobedience is not an option. It just absolutely is not.”
Café Rosetta has been fined numerous times by the state because of its defiance of COVID-19 restrictions, and has had its license to serve food suspended.
The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department said it turned the situation over to state officials after it received more than 100 citizen complaints about unsafe operations.
