Buffalo Reef Plan To Be Revealed Tonight

The Buffalo Reef Task Force will reveal its plan for dealing with migrating stamp sands at a meeting tonight (Tuesday).

The group has been reviewing options for more than three years, hoping to find the most effective way to stop the mining waste from the shoreline at Gay from clogging the reef, which is a major game fish spawning ground.

Options the group has reviewed include…
• walling off the remaining stamp sands on the beach near Gay, and returning dredged sands to that area;
• creating a new inland site near Gay where sands would be deposited;
• trucking the sands to the former White Pine Mine, where an existing stamp sand reclamation area already exists.

Once the plan is revealed, the search for money to implement it will begin.

Tonight’s meeting will start at 6:00 at the Lake Linden-Hubbell High School auditorium. To learn more, click here.
