Bridgefest Parade To Have Patriotic Theme

Flags will be waving at this year’s Bridgefest parade and there’s still time for last minute registration.

The annual parade across the Portage Lake Lift Bridge from Hancock to Houghton also falls on Flag Day, so volunteers will be passing out mini-American flags ahead of the floats.

Parade organizer Dave Crowley says there are plenty of reasons to enter a float this year.  “We do have our prizes—$500, $300, and $200 prizes—so if you put the effort in, you can have the potential to win one of those prizes,” said Crowley.

Leading off the parade will be the Thatcher Markham Memorial Run and everyone is encouraged to cheer on the runners at they pass.

Crowley said, “That will be a nice spectator thing to watch. They’ve got over 200 runners this year which is really, really phenomenal. They over doubled what they had last year.”

Proceeds go to support 31 Backpacks.

If you haven’t already registered for the parade, you can still download the form at www.bridgefestfun.com and turn it to the Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce office.

The parade lineup begins at 5:30pm Friday and the parade steps off at 7:00pm.
