Another tourist season has come to a close for the Quincy Mine.
The mine wrapped up its season in standard fashion over the weekend offering visitors its annual haunted tours in celebration of Halloween.
Patrons Ruth Anne O’Keefe and Nancy Ablao describe their experience on the tour.
“This was the first time we went down into the mine and I got it rated as terrifying,” said O’Keefe.
Ablao said, “We just got off the haunted tour at the Quincy Mines and I hope you love zombies.”
Patrons of all ages were guided through the haunted hoist house…then onto the cog tram, where they were lowered to the seventh level of the mine to experience ghosts, goblins, ghouls and other tales untold.
New to the tour this year were visual effects and sound design, along with actors and actresses on site that were provided by Michigan Tech’s theater company.
Tour Guide Jim Brooks said, “This year we also have the assistance of some of the visual and performing arts students. So we just took a quantum leap in terms of professionalism here. These students are just doing a wonderful job.”
Regularly scheduled tours resume again in the spring, allowing visitors to explore depths of 2,000 feet below the earth’s surface and get a better understanding of what conditions were like for the hard working folks of the mining era.
