Archery deer hunting season opens today across the state.
Bow hunters in most of the eastern and central Upper Peninsula will be allowed to shoot antlerless deer this year. That area includes the Huron Mountains in northeastern Baraga County, and the southern portion of Iron County.
Antlerless deer remain off limits in most of the western U.P.
Because of COVID-19 concerns and budget reductions, DNR Deer Checkpoints will operate on severely limited schedules this year. The Baraga checkstation will be open only on the first four days of the firearm season in November.
