Bond Proposals Pass In Calumet & DB-TC Schools

Dollar Bay-Tamarack City Area Schools will get their desired upgrades and the Village of Calumet will be able to buy some much needed maintenance equipment.

Bond proposals were put in front of voters in yesterday’s August election.

Both decisions were close, but in the end, voters gave narrow approvals to both bond proposals.

The DB-TC schools bond proposal for $4.6 million passed with a 192-168 tally–a difference of just 24 votes with a turnout of just over 25 percent of registered voters.

The turnout was even less in Calumet with slightly more than 15 percent of the registered voters casting ballots, giving the bond proposal a 45-34 victory–a margin of just 11 votes.

Dollar Bay-Tamarack City Area Schools will now be able remodel, furnish, and build additions to, as well as equip the 105-year-old school with security upgrades, update the boiler system, provide a new gym roof and parking lot, as well as new classrooms, gym, preschool, bathrooms, and kitchen.  Property owners will see an increase of 3.5 mils.

The $500,000 bond for Calumet will allow the village to purchase snow removal and street maintenance equipment, as well as a new public works garage.  The 30-year bond will be paid off from the general funds of the village.
