MARQUETTE, MI (November 3, 2016) – UP Health System (UPHS) announced today that Jim Bogan, market president of UPHS, will be retiring in the spring of 2017. Bogan has served in this role since 2014, when the system, which is comprised of UP Health System – Marquette, UP Health System – Bell, and UP Health System – Portage, was first formed.
“We are so grateful to Jim for his outstanding leadership and service over the years, both as CEO of Portage and as market president of this regional healthcare delivery system” said Jeff Seraphine, Eastern Group President, LifePoint Health, of which UPHS is a part. “His strong, steady and intuitive leadership style has had a significant impact on these facilities, this health system, and the entire UP.”
Bogan’s list of accomplishments – both as CEO of Portage and market president of UPHS – is extensive and the impact is far-reaching. Not only has he led the UP Health System since its formation in 2014, he was instrumental in developing the plan that united Marquette, Bell and Portage to form the strong regional healthcare delivery system that exists today. From his keen awareness of the importance of building strong relationships with employees and medical staff members to the implementation of the Eden Philosophy, which helps seniors live more meaningful lives, Bogan has become known for his intuitive leadership style and has been touted by the Michigan Health and Hospital Association as a major player in the progress of healthcare both in the UP and in the state. On top of that, Bogan has overseen more than $400 million in capital projects, including the construction of a new $29 million facility in Hancock, which opened in 2000, and more recently the $300+ million replacement facility in Marquette.

To ensure a smooth transition for UPHS, the three current hospital CEOs – Brian Sinotte, UPHS – Marquette; Jeff Lang, UPHS – Portage; and Mitch Leckelt, UPHS – Bell – will begin reporting directly to Seraphine. Under Seraphine’s leadership, they will continue to explore ways to further strengthen UP Health System and enhance access to high-quality healthcare services for the region.
