Bodies Recovered From 1997 Plane Crash

The bodies of a couple that were lost when their plane went done in the Upper Peninsula over two decades ago have now been recovered.

Mark and Janet Davies of Howell were reported missing on September 14, 1997 when their Piper PA-28 airplane crashed in the Hiawatha National Forest.

The National Transportation Safety Board searched for the missing plane but was unable to find them.

Then on July 11th of this year, the NTSB and the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office were notified of the discovery of a wreckage of a single engine plane that matched the registration of the one that went missing.

The remote location of the crash site added to the difficulty in responding to the scene.

Last week, the NTSB working with forensic anthropologists were able to recover the remains of the Davies.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
