Food, clothing, and shelter are often available through programs that help provide the basic necessities, but when a family has a child who needs just a little extra help, that family can turn to Simple Kindness for Youth (SKY).
SKY is a local organization that Bubba Megowen says provides those small tokens of assistance that can make a big difference. “They take care of all the children in the area if they have any special needs, etc, from buying a special ball to buying a prom dress. That’s what it’s all about is taking care of kids and having their self-esteem be positive,” said Megowen.
Local musician Bob Hiltunen and friends will be putting on a concert Saturday night at the Orpheum Theatre to raise money for SKY.
“About a year ago, Bob had a really serious health scare and it was amazing how the community around and he was just overwhelmed by all the kindness shown to him. At that time, we had a SKY meeting on how we can raise some funds and I said, hey—maybe Bob would be willing to do something for us and he gladly signed on and I just hope everybody comes out. It’s going to be a lot of fun. When Bobby’s having fun, everybody has fun,” said Pam Hiltunen from the Chassell Lions Club.
The suggested donation is $2 or more and all of the proceeds will go to help local youth. The show starts at 7:00pm.
