A mariner from Atlantic Mine had to be rescued Friday afternoon, after his boat became stranded on a sand bar.
The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department Marine Patrol was called out just before 6:00 to the area near the mouth of the Sturgeon River in the Portage Canal.
Chassell Fire and Rescue assisted in freeing the boat, with no damage. The 67-year-old boater was not injured.
