The Blue Line Support Walk is today at 5:30pm.
It will start at the Krist Food Mart in Houghton, proceed down Shelden Avenue, cross over the bridge into Hancock, and continue to the Hancock Police Department.
The march is in response to several Black Lives Matter marches, which gained national notoriety when two black suspects died after altercations with police earlier this Summer.
Rioting and looting across the country, and calls to defund police departments and divert the money to social programs resulted.
Calls to defund the Houghton and Hancock police departments were also given, at recent city council meetings.
Houghton Police Chief John Donnelly said his officers will be there to help out if they’re needed.
Hancock Police Chief Wayne Butler had this to say.
The Hubbell VFW will be there, passing out small American Flags, along with American Flag stickers.
Walk Organizer Keith Sever.
Again, the walk starts at 5:30pm tonight, at the Krist Food Mart in Houghton.
Keweenaw Report and ABC10 will be there.
