“Blue Goose” Food Drive Begins Today

The Michigan State Police kick off their annual “Stuff A Blue Goose” food drive today.

“Blue Goose” is the affectionate term troopers use to refer to their patrol vehicles.

The goal is to fill a vehicle with food, which will be turned over to local pantries. At the Calumet post, Community Service Trooper Kevin Rajala says they just want to help out…

Stop number one is today, at Larry’s Market in Baraga between 11:00 and 2:00. Next week, they’ll visit Econo Foods on Wednesday, Louie’s in Lake Linden on Friday, and Pat’s Foods in Calumet and L’Anse on Saturday.

Grocers help out by offering reduced prices on items the food pantries need…

You may also bring your own non-perishable donations. See the full schedule on our KeweenawReport.com Community Calendar.

By the way, the unique blue tint for state police cruisers replaced an earlier black and gold scheme in 1954. At first, Troopers were embarrassed about the bright color, and borrowed the “Blue Goose” nickname from the Blue Goose bus line, which was a predecessor of Greyhound. Now, the unique color is a source of pride.
