A critical need for blood continues in the Upper Peninsula as the UPHS Regional Blood Center is experiencing shortages of O-negative, A-negative and B-positive blood types.
A series of blood drives are being held to help with the shortage. Three of those blood drives will be held in the Copper Country.
The bloodmobile will be at Baraga County Memorial Hospital in L’Anse from 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. on Tuesday April 30th. For an appointment call Polly Manning @ 524-3322.
Two additional blood drives will be held on Wednesday, May 15th. The first will be at the Lighthouse Nursing Center in Hancock from 9:00am to 11:00am. For an appointment call Tina Giachino @ 482-6644.
The second will be at GS Engineering in Houghton from 12:30pm to 2:30pm. For an appointment call Melissa Stein @ 482-1235 ext. 160.
Appointments to donate blood can also be made at the UPHS Regional Blood Center in Hancock during their regular business hours.

Donors need to be healthy, hydrated, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be at least 17 years old.
You must wait 8 weeks between donations and be sure to bring your picture ID with you and eat two hours prior to donating blood.
If you meet these requirements, please take the time to give the “gift of life.”
