First District U.S. Representative Jack Bergman has changed his endorsement in the race for the Republican gubernatorial nomination.
Bergman had initially supported former Detroit Police Chief James Craig. Craig was the early front-runner, but his campaign hasn’t gained traction, and has suffered from some high-level staff turnover.
Bergman now says he’ll support self-styled “quality guru” Perry Johnson.
In his announcement yesterday, Bergman faulted Craig for not showing interest in northern Michigan, and running a Detroit-centric approach.
Bergman’s political strategist, John Yob, also recently switched from working with Craig to working with Johnson.
