The deadline for registering for the Michigan State University Extension’s Master Gardener Program is next Wednesday.
Classes will be held at the Portage Lake District Library in Houghton on Wednesdays from 5:30 – 9:30 p.m. beginning August 22 through December 12. Class will not be held on August 29, and December 12 will be a make-up class.
Horticultural topics that will be covered include best practices for growing flowers, vegetables and fruit, caring for lawns and woody ornamentals, house plant care, diagnosing plant diseases, pest identification and control, and much more. Participants need to complete the classroom requirements and volunteer for 40 hours in the community in order to become a certified Master Gardener.
The cost is for taking the classes is $325, and partial scholarships are available. Details and registration are online at https://events.anr.msu.edu/mgvphoughton18/ Participants must register by August 15.
